A Roof Terrace, Hampstead Heath
Maximising potential and adding value, our design solution for this penthouse apartment opened up the staircase and glazed its enclosure to connect the living spaces with the new roof terrace garden above using borrowed light downwards and skywards views up the staircase. Handcrafted, hardwood decking modulated in lines emphasise the views out towards Hampstead Heath over the surrounding green and planted flat roof. The extended terrace space is divided into two external 'rooms' each furnished and planted accordingly. The centerpiece is a Corten steel fire pit bowl. The spaces are enclosed by built-in seating and corner lighting tiers. Vertical, planted, green wall balustrades form a backdrop. Glazed panels open up views over a new flower 'meadow' planted on the green roof beyond.
