Penthouse Roof Terraces, Knightsbridge
An elegant project which is currently close to completion. With an open brief we created a simple but dynamic concept and identity for these seventh floor roof terraces. With uninterrupted views over London, a pair of matching external spaces extend outwards side by side, each accessed directly from the entertaining areas of this duplex apartment. Playing on a unique scenario - ‘twinned’ terraces connected by a dramatic bridge linking them - we have created gardens on promontories that ‘speak’ to each other through their designs and across the open space separating them. With the spectacular city skyline and London’s signature landmark buildings as the backdrop, an exquisite but simple pallet of surface materials and planes prevail, executed with upmost attention to detail and quality. Function playfully dictates the design themes of the new spaces designed so as to appear to ‘hang’ in the vastness of the sky and views beyond. To dynamic effect, a simple water feature and rill, planted along its length and ingeniously illuminated, points outwards towards the skyline. A front terrace runs the whole length of the property. Huge white clay bowls on large basalt stone plinths have been added between hardwood deck panels to divide this space. The effect is enhanced with a backdrop formed by the tops of the majestic London Plane trees in the garden square directly in front. We are collaborating with Richard Aldridge as the Lighting Consultant on the project and Collet Zarzycki who have completed the interior designs for this apartment.
